What Does War Have To Do with Climate Catastrophe?

This fact sheet is part of a series developed by CPE's Anti-War Working Group and authored by members of Catalyst Project and Center for Political Education.

At the beginning of 2017, Center for Political Education (CPE) rolled out a strategic plan to guide a regeneration of the Center's work from 2017 to 2019.  Longstanding members and supporters of CPE had been involved in a community assessment process that examined CPE's role and impact and whether the project should continue.  The assessment resulted in a series of recommendations that guided CPE's regeneration process...

In July 2018, the Center for Political Education offered The Spirit of '68: Lessons from the Worldwide Revolution, a four-part study of the politics of 1968 and its lessons for today's struggles.

By popular demand, CPE offers this online reader: a compilation of reading materials, videos from the four-part series, music, and supplemental links.See a full table of contents below (all materials in this reader are used for educational purposes only).

In the Spring of 2017, over the course of six sessions, the Center for Political Education led a study on W.E.B DuBois’ monumental Black Reconstruction in America and its relevance for organizing today. This study group included presentations from guest presenters who helped participants draw lessons from the book. Check out videos* from the class below. And, check out full study guides for each session of Reading Black Reconstruction here.

The goal of the fifth session of Marxism 101 is to help participants think about the paths forward for radical political economy, historical analysis, and liberation struggle in the days and years ahead.

The goal of the fifth session of Marxism 101 is to help participants understand how Marxist political economy and a theory of history motivates, is in dialogue, or constructive debate with contemporary local movements/revolutionary projects.

The goal of the fourth session of Marxism 101 is to help participants understand how Marxist political economy and a theory of history motivated (or were situated next to other) revolutionary struggles in the past 100 years.

The goal of the third session of Marxism 101 is to help participants understand the concept of historical materialism, its relationship to dialectical thinking, and ways to apply both as methodologies to movement work.

The goal of this second class of Marxism 101 is to help participants grapple with Marx's critique of political economy and to think together about work, workers, and social production and distribution of material wealth in capitalist society.

The goal of this first class of Marxism 101 is to help participants get to know one another, to understand the social and political conditions in which Marx lived and worked, and to gain a cursory understanding of key Marxist concepts.

Welcome to the Black Reconstruction Study Group

There are 3 primary goals for this study group:

1. To examine Du Bois’ method of historiography for understanding the role of Black people in the Reconstruction period.

While there are many high quality and useful materials circulating in relationship to the 2016 elections, and you likely have your favorites, here are just a few of the things that we reviewed in preparation for People Get Ready: Building Resistance in the Trump Era.

CPE co-facilitated a teach-in on MLK's radical legacy (January 14, 2018) with Haiti Action Committee as part of Anti Police-Terror Project's call for actions to #ReclaimMLK in the Bay Area. CPE created this study guide based on the outline for the teach-in.

On January 14, 2017, just days after the disastrous Donald Trump electoral victory, the Center for Political Education hosted a one-day conference where nearly 600 organizers, activists, and community members gathered to understand the political moment, fortify themselves, and to get organized for the fights to come. Below are videos from PEOPLE GET READY: BUILDING RESISTANCE IN THE TRUMP ERA.
